Ontario Basketball: COVID-19 Update
Submitted By Steve Baker on Friday, March 13, 2020
To keep our Dynamo Families up to date with the state of basketball in Ontario during this challenging time, we are forwarding the following message from Basketball Ontario for all to read.

Dear OBA Club Executives,

As an update to our communication yesterday, and out of an abundance of caution, Ontario Basketball has elected to, effective immediately, cancel OBA Championships, both Provincials and Ontario Cup, at the U11 and U12 age groups, and suspend all basketball programming for one month – through Easter long weekend, at which time we will reassess health advisories and safety measures as they relate to COVID-19.

Our commitment remains to promoting a healthy, active lifestyle and therein the health of our members comes first.

Ontario Basketball will continue to monitor the latest updates from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Canada’s chief public health officer, and the Government of Canada and if there is a change in status, or new recommendations, we will provide updates on a timely basis.

While there does not appear to be significant risk to Ontario Basketball’s demographic of membership we encourage you to be vigilant and take extra precaution for your own health and safety.

The Public Health Agency of Canada currently assesses the public health risk associated with COVID-19 as low for Canada and for Canadian travelers. The public health risk is continually assessed as new information becomes available. Updates on COVID-19 can be found at:

Public Health Agency of Canada – https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection.html

World Health Organization (WHO) International Travel and Health Updates – https://www.who.int/ith/en/

Additionally, teams seeking refunds on hotels booked for OBA Championships shall designate one team representative to contact OBA’s accommodations partner Sport-Travel at 1-800-304-6346 and practice patience as all sectors deal with this unprecedented event.

Thank you for your cooperation, support and understanding at this time. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Yours in basketball,

Jason Jansson

Executive Director
